The Arches are delighted to announce the start of a new project ‘Cycling without Age Rhayader’ thanks to National Lottery players after successfully applying for a £10000 Community Fund grant.
Cycling without Age gives the opportunity for older and less-abled residents to be chauffeured in trishaw bikes by trained local volunteers. It offers a chance to get out of their homes, meet new people, reconnect with their community and nature and ‘feel the wind in their hair’.
‘Cycling without Age’ was originally set up in Copenhagen, Denmark, when local entrepreneur Ole Kassow saw that many local older people wanted to get out and about but with limited mobility cycling on an ordinary bike was not possible.
Pippa Boss, CO of The Arches is very excited about the project: “This is such a fabulous idea and a great way to help older members of our community to adapt, recover and thrive after the last two years. We have ordered a very beautiful Triobike electric trishaw and hope to take delivery in time to show it off at our Charity Craft Fayre on Saturday 20th November at Rhayader Leisure Centre. We are looking for volunteers to train to be ‘pilots’ - and also somewhere safe and secure to store the trishaw where it can be re-charged”.
