Volunteer Week

Volunteers Week

The Arches celebrated Volunteers Week during the first week of June by hosting a Volunteers Appreciation Evening at The Lamb & Flag Inn, Rhayader.

It was a fabulous evening with a delicious buffet and entertainment - courtesy of one of our very own volunteers Del Ho Sang. Del brought along one of her band mates Dave from local group Ebony and Ivories. They treated us to some fantastic singing creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

We held a light-hearted awards ceremony to celebrate some of the unique attributes of our volunteers. Mary Bufton: ‘Flying Start’ award as one of our new shop volunteers. Ray Harvey: ‘All Rounder’ award for his unwavering reliability and flexibility for stepping in as a volunteer Dial-a-Ride Driver when needed and as a passenger assistant. Viv Hutchings: ‘Charm the Birds from the Trees’ award for her friendliness and natural charm with shop customers. John Marshall: ‘Above and Beyond’ award for his commitment and care as a volunteer driver and Good Neighbours befriender. Del Ho Sang received a special award for being the longest serving volunteer with recognition for her hard work and commitment to The Arches over the years. The final award was to honour a very special volunteer, William Cook. Will retired as a trustee earlier this year and was presented with a gift in recognition of his services. All volunteers received a Volunteer Hero mug with The Arches Logo.

The evening’s events also consisted of a fun local knowledge quiz compiled by volunteer Ric Johnson.

Ric was unable to attend the evening, so one of our newest shop volunteers, Tim Allan, stepped in as Quiz Master and did a fine job of delivering the quiz.

Our Chief Officer, Pippa Boss thanked the volunteers for the thousands of volunteer hours worked in the office, charity shop, community car driving, passenger assisting, befriending and more! “We are only able to provide such a wide range of quality services to the people of Rhayader with the support of our many volunteers. This evening gives us a chance to show how grateful we are to every one of them”
